The Palm Beach International Boat Show Makes History

By Frances Flannagan

After a truly spectacular four days, the Palm Beach International Boat Show 2024 (PBIBS) drew to a close on Sunday the 24th of March. Showcasing the largest number of yachts in event history, this year’s edition was one of the most successful yet, showcasing the superyacht industry at its greatest.

PBIBS 2024 was the largest edition in the show’s history, with a record-breaking number of vessels proudly on display in downtown West Palm Beach. Attendees were surrounded by an impressive lineup of yachts, including global and U.S debuts from some of the top industry players, including Fraser Yachts, Sirena and Horizon.

Alongside the yachts themselves, a new engine and marine equipment pavilion was added to the show, immersing boating enthusiasts within a range of cutting-edge marine accessories.

‘We maintain our focus on enhancing the overall guest experience,’ commented Andrew Doole, President of U.S. Boat Shows with Informa Markets. ‘This includes dynamic activations like Nautical Ventures' innovative in-water AquaZone presentation and a diverse array of educational seminars, including those by the Water Revolution Foundation highlighting sustainable boating options. Complemented by family-friendly activities and exclusive luxury VIP experiences for Windward VIP ticket holders, our goal remains to elevate every aspect of the event.’

A number of big announcements were also made at the show, contributing to the already vibrant and energetic atmosphere. Damen Yachting unveiled the brand new Xplorer 80, the follow up to the original SeaXplorer 77, which will be built on the shipyard’s proven technical platform whilst offering limitless customisation options. She will be the perfect crossover superyacht, combining luxury, expedition and high-spec shipbuilding.

Winch Design and Feadship announced their exciting new concept PROJECT FUSION, an 88m motor yacht that is set to embody a sense of connection with a significant emphasis placed on wellbeing. She has been designed to reflect flexibility and slow-living, with open spaces and fluidity throughout the yacht.

A final exciting reveal was SPEAR by Lateral Naval Architects and T. Fotiadis Design, a 140m trimaran yacht concept. She boasts the pinnacle of scientific specifications, allowing for the seamless incorporation of future technologies, whilst offering an indulgent, luxurious yachting experience.

PBIBS is home to the iconic Windward Club, providing an upscale retreat for VIP guests. This luxurious sanctuary elevated guest experiences even further this year as ticket holders gained access to the Palm Beach Modern + Contemporary Art Fair (PBM+C) alongside being given a space to relax, indulge in exquisite cuisine and enjoy an open bar.

PBM+C was presented by Art Miami and is a highly esteemed art event, offering an unparalleled art-purchasing experience. The fair showcased a diverse collection of artworks, featuring pieces by some of the most iconic contemporary artists.

The collaboration with this exclusive art fair complimented the prestige of the featured yachts at PBIBS, encapsulating an unparalleled essence of luxury for attendees. It offered a glimpse not only into the aspirational lifestyle of yachting, but the luxe-lifestyle as a whole, setting it apart from other yachting events.

PBIBS has served as an important event for the Palm Beach community since 1982, not to mention the marine industry in its entirety. The economic impact of the show extends to a range of projects that encourage educational opportunities and the enhancement of waterfront projects, positively impacting people from all walks of life throughout the community.

Prior to this year’s event, the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back program announced that it has contributed $500,000 towards community enrichment initiatives, commented on by Alyssa Freeman, Executive Director of Marine Industries Association of Palm Beach County:

‘The Palm Beach International Boat Show is not only an economic powerhouse but also a cherished tradition within our community… Through initiatives like the Palm Beach International Boat Show Gives Back program, we reaffirm our commitment to enriching lives and fostering growth across the industry and throughout key community institutions that impact the everyday lives of West Palm Beach residents.’
