The $13,900 Rare Blue Gemstone Watch from GoS

By P. Joseph

Swedish watchmakers GoS have launched a new timepiece for their Stockholm range, complete with a dial made of ‘lapis lazuli’ - a rare blue gemstone found in the north-east of Afghanistan.

Priced at $13,900, the new Stockholm watch adds to a collection that is distinctive for its use of non-traditional materials such as Damascus steel and reindeer leather.

A white mother-of-pearl dial version is also available for $12,600.

Other features include a 42mm polished steel case, damascus steel hands and crown, NOS Alpina 592R manual-wind movement with 40 hour power reserve, and a blue alligator strap.

The new watch is the first model to be delivered in a handcrafted GoS presentation box, constructed using an ancient technique called “svep” in Swedish, that involves thin birch wood being moisturized and bent over a round template. Birch root is then used to lock the shape with a seam.

SoG is run by watchmaker Patrik Sjögren and bladesmith Johan Gustafsson.
