160m BLUE Delivered by Lurssen
World-leading shipyard Lurssen Yachts has announced the delivery of the largest superyacht of 2022, its latest mammoth superyacht 160m BLUE.
As one of the most anticipated yacht launches of 2022, Lurssen’s newest superyacht, 160m BLUE, has now been delivered to her owner. Following her second successful sea trial at the end of June, BLUE left the confines of the Bremen-based yard on the 2nd July, beginning her maiden voyage to the Mediterranean for her first season with her new owners.
Referred to as ‘Project Blue’ throughout her build process, the 160m vessel was last spotted in April at the start of her North Sea sea trials, with her details remaining tightly under wraps by the German yard since her launch in February.
Lurssen has now revealed that BLUE is not just impressive in terms of size. The 160m superyacht has been built to be as environmentally friendly as possible, fully equipped with a brand new, highly efficient Diesel-Electric Hybrid Propulsion Concept that has been developed in-house by Lurssen's engineering specialists. This cutting-edge concept combines diesel propulsion-technology through two diesel engines, with modern electric propulsion systems that can either be used for optimal slow cruising speeds, or for generating electrical energy to operate at higher speeds.
Alongside a remarkable propulsion system, BLUE is equipped with an advanced exhaust ‘after-treatment’ system that ensures less noise and vibrations during cruising, alongside a reduction in nitrogen oxide levels. The state-of-the-art features onboard BLUE doesn’t stop there. Notably, her wastewater treatment plant has been fitted with new ‘membrane technology’ that transforms the wastewater into, ‘drinking water quality’ allowing for safe disposal at sea.
With several innovative features, it was only fitting for BLUE’s substantial profile to be of equal grandeur. Terence Disdale Design was chosen to design BLUE’s timeless yet contemporary exterior as well as her ‘traditionally fresh’ interior. The owner’s technical management team, Lurssen’s project management team and the Terence Disdale team worked in cohesion to create the masterpiece that is BLUE.
‘To execute such a comprehensive project, an excellent team is necessary,’ commented Managing Partner, Peter Lürssen, ‘we are very proud of BLUE as yet another statement of Lürssen’s ability and desire to build yachts that meet all of our exacting Owners’ requirements, guided by our core focus of expert engineering, beautiful design and being a proud market leader in developing sustainable technologies.’
With a total length of 160m and a beam of 22.5m, BLUE has become the fifth largest superyacht in the world and the second largest Lurssen-built vessel. Whilst her gross tonnage remains unknown, she is rumoured to be one of the largest superyachts in the world in terms of volume. We certainly can't wait to see her in all her glory around the waters of the Mediterranean very soon.
