By Frances Flannagan

Marina Port Vell is widely recognised as a world-class superyacht marina, attracting yacht Owners, charterers and Captains from across the globe. As well as its notable services available to the vessels, Marina Port Vell is set apart due to its unrivalled array of activities on offer to visitors, enhancing the marina’s luxurious, safe, and boutique nature.

Located in the heart of Barcelona, and just 15 km from El Prat airport, Marina Port Vell stands out as a highly accessible marina with a spectacle of diverse offerings. It beautifully reflects the unmatched opportunities of the city in which it resides; Barcelona is known for its incredible dining scene, wonderful shopping district, and stunning scenery, all of which is encompassed in this world-class marina.

Catering for the world’s most luxurious vessels, it is no surprise that luxury is at the heart of Marina Port Vell’s DNA, offering 73 berths for vessels up to 190m and boasting a 400m dock: one of the longest in the world. Personalised concierge assistance elevates the experience of visitors to great heights, whilst its emphasis on safety, with 24-hour security and permanently staffed reception, attributes it a boutique-feel. Barcelona’s appeal as a premier destination, with its vibrant city life, makes Marina Port Vell a favoured port of call for owners and a welcoming home base for crew, offering exceptional amenities amid Catalan charm.

Elevating Marina Port Vell’s services even further, in July, the repositioning project and €20 million investment plan were successfully completed. The aim was to enhance the marina’s infrastructure capacity and the quality of services for large yachts even further, which was truly achieved.

Three main projects were involved in the remodelling: the reorganisation of the water sheet, a landscaping plan, and the installation of a new fuel supply system. The results are 23 additional berths for vessels up to 70m, an increase of green spaces within the infrastructure totalling over 17,600m, and the reduction of the risk of pollution, made possible by a supply network allowing for fuelling vessels at the berths via a bunkering system.

The marina’s offerings were showcased at their greatest during the 37th America’s Cup, where Marina Port Vell was appointed as the Preferred Superyacht Marina, welcoming over 150 superyachts during the period of the event. Visitors enjoyed VIP offerings in an unbeatable location, resulting in a truly unforgettable way to experience the event.

Unique experiences on offer included the exclusive opening of The Sea Garden restaurant, the cocktail and music experience at Blue Wave, the Möet & Chandon Terrace, and the Estrella Damm Lounge, and luxury shopping experiences, with boutiques ranging from Louis Vuitton and Prada to INEOS Grenadier. In collaboration with Wajer Yachts, Marina Port Vell also offered a VIP Onboard Experience, where attendees could enjoy the competition in an elegant and sophisticated setting.

Marina Port Vell represents the pinnacle of superyacht marinas, offering an unparalleled experience tailored to diverse needs. For yacht Owners and their guests, it serves as the perfect gateway to Barcelona, providing seamless access to the city’s Michelin-starred restaurants, vibrant bars, world-class shopping, and iconic art and architecture. For Captains and crew, Marina Port Vell offers a welcoming homeport, combining exceptional amenities with the vibrant yet livable charm of Barcelona as a base. Few destinations in the world can match the luxurious and bespoke atmosphere that Marina Port Vell effortlessly provides, setting a new benchmark in superyacht marina excellence.
