A Symphony of Art & Science: Lateral Naval Architects Introduces 140m SPEAR

By Frances Flannagan

The product of a new collaboration between T. Fotiadis Design and Lateral Naval Architects, SPEAR has been unveiled to the industry: a 140m trimaran yacht concept. She boasts the pinnacle of scientific specifications, allowing for the seamless incorporation of future technologies, whilst also offering an indulgent, luxurious yachting experience.

Captivating the industry’s attention, the newly-revealed SPEAR is not characterised solely by her impressive length of 140 metres; she bears a striking streamline design, promising to combine efficiency and comfort with large open spaces. Her aesthetic is defined by sleek lines and a streamlined profile, each element of her design crafted with the utmost precision, ensuring an unparalleled cruising experience.

Well-suited to an adventurous Owner, each element of SPEAR has been optimised for high-speed cruising. She has a generous cruising speed of 18 knots and a top speed of 21 knots, with a power demand equivalent to an 80m monohull with twice the usable GT. SPEAR is established as a genuine vessel for global exploration even further with her range exceeding 7500 nm, made possible by reduced fuel demands and ample available tank volumes.

Her large dimensions, including a gross tonnage of 4650 and 23m beam, allow SPEAR to offer a medium-speed engine at the core of energy architecture, providing a 15 percent fuel saving per kW.

SPEAR is a comfortable platform, with small sponsons needing little support from active stabilisation. The valuable tank volumes provided by the sponsons also help to include future fuels, in particular methanol, which will be combined with the medium speed engine: the first viable future fuel solution to enter the market.

On top of her admirable technical specifications, SPEAR offers a spacious luxury platform, boasting a 40 percent increase in external space whilst retaining the indoor areas similar to that of a 110m monohull.

At the heart of SPEAR’s design is the optimisation of outdoor living spaces, featuring sun decks, al fresco dining areas and comfortable lounging areas. Every occasion is catered for on board; from glamorous parties to soaking up the scenery in unparalleled relaxation.

SPEAR is built upon a proven, flexible system architecture, which is able to accommodate future fuels with ease. These innovative offerings are combined with an indulgent luxury experience for the world’s most discerning explorers, making her a unique offering to the market.
