Superyachts.com had the privilege of speaking to the owners of HAPPY ME, gaining an exclusive insight into her inception, amenities, and the plethora of opportunities that accompany a charter onboard this spectacular superyacht. 

Tell us more about your history with the world of superyachts?

Owner of HAPPY ME: With a love for travelling and the water, my wife and I discovered the private yacht charter world with friends over two decades ago, with the intention of discovering different regions of the world. We learned the hard way that a successful yacht holiday depends not only on the quality and equipment of the yacht, but above all on the qualifications and friendliness of the crew. Despite some negative experiences, our love for the water did not falter and we decided to buy our first yacht, which was a used one at the time, and hired a small crew from Croatia: Captain Boris, Chief Stewardess Niki and Chef Marco, who have now worked for us for over 12 years. After many years of sailing together, we decided to have a boat built exactly according to our needs as well as expanding our trustworthy crew; and so came the birth of HAPPY ME. 

Why did you decide on a new build?

Over the last two decades, we have gained a lot of experience about how a yacht should be designed for an enjoyable and perfect holiday at sea. We were only able to put all these experiences into practice by building our own new yacht.

Why did you choose Benetti to build HAPPY ME? What stood out about the Italian yard over others? 

It was important for us to work with a competent and experienced partner for our new build; Benetti has been building larger boats for many decades and therefore has many years of solid experience and expertise. Not only this, but Benetti was ready to respond to our wishes right from the start, and implement our desires based on our past experiences. 

What is the story behind the name HAPPY ME? 

Nothing should be taken for granted in life. As owners, we feel great gratitude for fulfilling our dream of owning a superyacht. We are aware of this gift and are happy about it, so not a day should go by without remembering it. There are several Vietnamese-inspired pieces onboard HAPPY ME, one of which is a traditional silk hand-embroidered picture which symbolises gratefulness. The old story behind the art where holy water is offered to the sky with thankfulness influenced us to recreate this atmosphere throughout the yacht; to inspire every person who steps on board.

How did TWW Yachts assist with the build?

Just as our goal was to build an individual, high-quality yacht, it was also our goal to find an agency that would respond to our individual wishes as owners and those of our future charter guests. After a long personal conversation with Michael White and James Graham-Gloete, we were certain to have found in TWW the right partner who would look after our yacht. This year we are starting our fifth common yachting season and we are still very satisfied.

How would you say your past yachting experiences influenced the design, amenities and services available to charter guests onboard HAPPY ME?

We intended to build a ‘feel-good oasis at sea’, allowing anyone onboard HAPPY ME to feel at home. Usually, the sundeck on yachts of this size is open and therefore windy, especially while cruising. We approached this issue through the large glass doors, creating a space that can be opened or closed depending on the weather. HAPPY ME has every imaginable marine toy for the water: from the most powerful jet skis available on the market to E-Foils and Seabobs, alongside a variety of onboard amenities, including a self-levelling pool table and a range of sports equipment that is unusual for a yacht of this size. On the middle deck, there is a show-stopping Onyx Bar that offers the perfect way to spend an evening, where guests can enjoy cocktails, smoothies, or even a freshly tapped beer. This area can even be converted into a disco with a laser show and smoke machine, depending on the guests’ wishes. HAPPY ME offers many retreats for quiet moments, massages for relaxation but also a lot of variety in the water, on land and on board.

Why did you choose to base HAPPY ME in Trogir, Croatia?

Trogir is located almost exactly in the middle of Croatia's coastline, therefore a good starting point for trips both to the south towards Dubrovnik or Montenegro, as well as for trips to the north towards Pula, the Kornati islands or the islands of Raab and Pag. The well-connected Split International Airport is also just a 10-minute drive from Trogir, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and HAPPY ME is located right in front of this beautiful place. 

What is your favourite place to cruise in Croatia? 

It always depends on our mood, however, our absolute favourite is the national park in Mljet. Here, we find everything we need: a clean, huge bay, protected on all sides and surrounded only by forest, where we can swim, do all kinds of watersports and take long walks or bike rides on land. As an alternative to nature, you can visit one of the numerous old towns along the coast and on the islands, some of which are over 2,000 years old. For wine lovers, a visit to one of the many wineries is also a good idea to try exquisite wines.

Where else in the Mediterranean would you recommend cruising?

In our opinion, Croatia, with its diverse island world and many beautiful bays with crystal clear water, offers the most beautiful area to spend wonderful days on the water. If you would like to take more shore excursions, then the Amalfi Coast, Sicily, Corsica, Sardinia or Greece are certainly worthwhile destinations.
