Classic Feadship Reconstructed and Relaunched as EMERALD

By Emily Dawkins

M/Y LEGACY V, a classic Feadship superyacht built in 1990, has been relaunched as EMERALD following a 16-month extensive refit at Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands. Following her refit, she has now joined the charter market with TWW Yachts.

Originally designed by De Voogt Naval Architects, 48.6m M/Y LEGACY V arrived at Balk Shipyard in October 2021 and has now been revealed to the industry 16 months later, boasting a shiny new name and magnificent new features.

EMERALD’s experienced European owners wanted to bring the Feadship classic up to date whilst also creating a true home away from home experience for everyone onboard; and its safe to say that the entire team behind her rebuild have achieved just that.

Included in the, now, EMERALD's refit was an extension of 1.8 metres to 50.4 metres, restyling of the stern, and an additional stairway built from the aft cockpit to the swim platform, to improve functionality. She was repainted in ‘orion green’ to compliment her new features.

The now 50.4 metre's interior design was updated with a timeless monochrome theme by UK-based design studio Design Unlimited, and the general arrangement was remodeled to create more space inside. The lower deck now features a relocated VIP cabin, crew mess, laundry room, cold stores, and an en-suite engineer's cabin, along with five crew cabins and a captain's suite on the bridge deck.

Marcus Rayner, design lead at Design Unlimited, commented: ‘We are at our best when we work closely with our clients and this project was no exception. The timeless feel of the interior was created using subtle differences in tone and texture then combining rich dark timber to give a sense of quality and sophistication.’

EMERALD's exterior spaces feature newly fitted automatic sliding glass doors, a large bridge deck, a rebuilt sundeck with a large Jacuzzi forward, sun beds, and a wet bar. The vessel’s technological equipment now includes brand-new navigation, AV/IT and communication systems, as well as two zero-speed Quantum extendable stabilisation fins. Overall, she has been incredibly upgraded and modernised to create a luxurious, comfortable home at sea for both her owners and new charter clients.

TWW Yachts’ Managing Partner, David Westwood, stated: ‘The owners of EMERALD put their trust into TWW Yachts to manage the introduction of their yacht to the charter market. This strong relationship will continue with our close team of dedicated charter managers. Those who appreciate a classic yacht will love how her exterior design has been preserved, while the yacht as a whole has been given many brilliant new features to make life on board unforgettable.’

EMERALD is powered by recently serviced twin CAT engines that can reach a top speed of 14 knots and a cruising speed of 12 knots.

After her relaunch, EMERALD will join the charter market under the management of TWW Yachts and premiere at the MYBA Charter Show in Barcelona this April.
