Damen Yachting Talks Top 100: Customising the Style of Yachting

At Superyachts.com’s Top 100 2025 event, Sarah Flavell, Marketing Manager of Damen Yachting, revealed exclusive insights into the shipyard’s diverse portfolio. The Dutch yard is renowned not only for its three exceptional platforms, but the extent to which it prioritises bespoke builds, going beyond the customisation of exteriors and interiors and customising the very style of yachting itself.

In light of the Top 100 event, Sarah Flavell, Marketing Manager at Damen Yachting, highlighted the extraordinary changes that the industry has seen over recent years, most notably: the desire to build bigger. 

Flavell reflected on the fact ‘previously what was 90 metres was a large yacht, now 140 metres is the new 90.’ Despite seeing no slowing down in the activity of 60 - 80 metre projects, Damen Yachting currently has a 100 metre-plus project in build, demonstrating the extent to which the Dutch yard offers customisation and the ways in which it responds to industry demands. 

The crux of Damen Yachting’s business model is its ‘compelling platform of a diverse range of yachting solutions’, these being; Amels, Xplorer, Yacht Support and large yacht refits. These extensive offerings emphasise Damen Yachting’s capability of catering to the needs of any client:

‘We always talk about customisation in terms of interiors and exteriors, but why not customise the style of yachting and ensure that they [the clients] have a solution that really works to what they want to achieve.’

Flavell also acknowledged just how many people are involved in building a yacht, highlighting the entire industry of co-makers that backs up a build process. A larger yacht requires a larger workforce, meaning that the demand for bigger projects has had a dramatic impact on the extent of the industry’s ecosystem. 

With a busy month ahead, including the launch of the first Xplorer 60, the reveal of a Yacht Support and a refit making her first appearance, Damen Yachting solidifies its position as a dominant player within the industry.
