Feadship Launches 55m Somnium (ex Project 704)
Hitting the water at Feadship’s Aalsmeer yard this week, the 55m Somnium (ex Project 704) is nearing completion. Taking her name from the Latin word for ‘dream’, the Dutch yard has revealed that its latest project is designed to accommodate three generations of family members onboard.
Somnium is the first pure custom superyacht built for an experienced Northern European owner. She sports an in-house design by Studio de Voogt on her exterior with interiors by Italian design studio FM Architettura. Owner’s representative Ron Kleverlaan from Waterman Marine Consultancy played a key role in the build process, and together with the owner approached Feadship for the build after serious consideration of who could best meet their requirements.
The owner himself was extremely hands-on throughout the build; Feadship released in a statement that he would visit the yard ‘bi-weekly’ and regularly enjoyed a beer with the build team at the end of the week.
Somnium's exterior takes inspiration from supercar design, with a sleek aluminium hull designed to enhance efficiency and allow for shallow draft berthing at will. The yacht is also fully equipped with an extensive tender garage and dedicated dive equipment store.
Highlights of Feadship’s new launch include expansive deck space, with exclusive lounge area on the foredeck, a pool with adjustable floor and counterflow on the aft deck and Jacuzzi island on the sun deck.
Interior features, more details of which will be revealed in due course, range from a full gymnasium with fold-down platform, full-beam owners’ suite with balcony and four spacious guest suites on the lower deck.
At 55m, Somnium was built to maximum exploration capacity of the remote corners of the world, while allowing for top-level luxury onboard for the whole family.
