‘Feadship Uncovered’: New Podcast Offering a Peak Behind the Scenes
With superyachts sitting atop the luxury pyramid, billionaires across the globe wish to purchase their own, and Feadships, in particular, have become highly sought after vessels. In Feadship’s new podcast, ‘Feadship Uncovered’, journalist and writer John Weich explores why the elite are willing to line up to own a Feadship.
What used to be modestly sized and human in scale has become something that is rivalled only by private spacecraft: superyachts over the past twenty years have grown exponentially. John Weich explores why billionaires are so keen to own a Feadship; whether that means joining a waiting list, or buying one second hand.
‘In the past 75 years, around 450 Feadships have been built,’ says host John Weich, who worked closely with Feadship’s project management team and with podcast makers Tonny Media on the production. ‘Scarcity explains part of its appeal, but for someone to spend hundreds of millions on a yacht I knew there had to be more to it. That’s what this podcast is about.’
Feadship gave John unprecedented access to its people, craftsmen, and shipyards. Across seven 30-minute episodes, John attempts to design a yacht of his own. Whilst familiar with the luxury yachting world, John knows little of the specifics of the industry, making the series a captivating and exciting listen.
He interviews people across all departments involved with designing a superyacht; from influential figures within the design, innovation and research and development fields, to captains and crew, shipyard directors and apprentices. By being given full access to the industry, John uncovers as much of the luxury world of yachting as possible.
‘It is of course fascinating to view Feadship through the lens of a prospective owner, which is basically what John is in the series,’ says Feadship’s Chief Marketing Officer Farouk Nefzi. ‘But it’s also personal to me. I wanted to tell the story of Feadship in a way that mimics the way my own grandfather told us captivating stories in the old days, which is so much more powerful than a visual documentary. I think we’ve succeeded in this.’
‘Feadship Uncovered’ is available on all major podcast platforms. New episodes are available every Sunday with the grand finale on Sunday 20th August.
