Feadship’s Brand New Solar-Cell Superyacht Successfully Launched

By Frances Flannagan

Feadship has announced that its spectacular 59.50m Project 713 has been launched, representing yet another milestone in the Dutch yard’s environmental roadmap. As well as featuring the sustainable innovations typical of a Feadship yacht, she is also the first vessel designed by the yard to be fitted with solar cells, significantly contributing to her energy efficiency.

Exuding the pinnacle of elegant yacht design with a blue-grey hull and white superstructure, Feadship’s 59.50m Project 713 has successfully hit the water. She represents a significant step towards the shipyard’s net-zero goal by 2030, meeting an array of long-term environmental and social sustainability expectations of stakeholders.

Her beautifully balanced exterior styling has been penned by Studio De Voogt, whilst Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design is responsible for her contemporary interior.

Like all other Feadships, Project 713 features diesel-electric propulsion and is able to run on HVO. More notably, however, she is the first Feadship yacht to be fitted with solar cells for auxiliary power generation. Designed for optimal performance and durability, the panels utilise the most efficient silicon cells currently available. They are custom-made in the Netherlands, and produce up to 24MWh annually, contributing significantly to the yacht’s energy efficiency.

Project 713 is also the first new-build Feadship to be fitted with FSC-certified plantation teak for all of the decking, a certification which recognises that the wood is harvested in a sustainable way.

According to the Yacht Environmental Index (YETI), Project 713 belongs to the best in fleet at 35 percent below average impact. This is due to not just one, but a variety of efficiency-enhancing features onboard, with environmental impact reduction being a key aspect of her design.

The launch of this spectacular yacht underscores the notable economic impact of the superyacht industry in the Netherlands: a region whose contribution represents more than half of the entire maritime industry. As well as driving innovation and craftsmanship, the industry also generates an exceptional array of skilled jobs, from naval architecture to interior design, bolstering the Dutch economy.

Project 713 is a stunning reflection of the high standards of quality and creativity that Feadship promotes, her launch being a milestone moment for the shipyard. It represents the Dutch yard’s unwavering commitment to sustainable yachting, as it sets new benchmarks for the superyacht industry time and time again.
