There is no doubt about it that the Principality of Monaco and its esteemed Yacht Show have become jewels of the Mediterranean. Welcoming high-net-worth individuals from around the world, the small country has created the ultimate superyacht show, which has become the primary location for a yachtsman’s journey to discover all things superyachts.

In the previous two episodes of ‘This is Monaco’, we delved into the legacy behind the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS), and shone a spotlight on the luxury grandeur that it offers.

In this brand-new, third episode, ‘The Next Wave’, we explore how the show, and the Principality, has become the world’s major hub for the yachting elite to begin their journey into yachting. We explore how cutting-edge technology, sustainability and luxury meet at the four-day September event, and speak to those at the heart of the industry about how they are looking towards the next generation of young, digitally-driven and eco-conscious superyacht owners.

‘I think that all of us in the industry are inundated with bad news about the environment and climate change; I think we all have to do whatever we can to improve the situation and make sure that future generations will be able to live what we live and explore our oceans’, comments yacht designer, Espen Øino.

A notable highlight of the MYS's move to encourage a fresh approach for the next generation of superyacht clientele is the addition of the Yacht Design and Innovation Hub. Launched at last year’s show, the Hub welcomes a number of designers to share their latest innovations and evolving design natures. Yacht designer Sam Sorgiovanni of Sorgiovanni Designs adds: ‘I think that this hub will evolve and become an important part of the show.' The new addition of the dedicated superyacht sailing area at MYS also highlights how the new generation is changing the shape of the show for the better.

It’s not just the show that is adapting to the new and younger superyacht owners, but the Principality of Monaco itself is pioneering new, sustainable initiatives to appeal to the eco-concious mindset of the ‘next wave’.

‘Every industry including the superyacht industry continues to evolve in many ways in regards to taste, technology and the kind of experiences that people want to have enjoying these yachts’, adds Charlie McCurdy, President and CEO of Informa Markets.

With the start of the Monaco Yacht Show on the horizon, we’re looking forward to seeing what this year’s show will bring.
