First WiderCat 92 on Track for Summer Launch

By Emily Dawkins

Italian shipyard Wider has announced that the construction of the first 28-metre unit from its WiderCat 92 series is well underway, with progress on track for her 2023 summer launch date. The catamaran’s two hulls were recently spotted being transferred to Wider’s Fano shipyard in Italy to complete her build.

Designed in collaboration with Luca Dini Design & Architecture, the 28m new-build marks the first multihull superyacht from the Italian yard, and the flagship of its new hybrid propulsion catamaran series.

On schedule for launching this summer, WiderCat 92 number one is the first of five WiderCat 92 units that have already been sold by Wider, with it being less than a year after the model was presented to the market. Recently transferred in parts by road to the Wider’s facilities in Fano, the first unit will continue its construction with systems installation, painting and interior work. Work on her deck and superstructure is already underway, and expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

‘We’re extremely proud of how the works on the WiderCat 92 are progressing,’ commented Marcello Maggi, Head of W-Fin Sarl, the holding company that owns 100% of Wider equity. ‘Thanks to the perseverance of the people at Wider, what was just an idea scribbled on a blank sheet of paper a few months ago is now a 92-foot catamaran under construction featuring a distinctive design and the best hybrid technology you can find today.’

Alongside design from Luca Dini, Centro Stile Wider has been involved in bringing the WiderCat 92 vision to life. The new, future-proof series incorporates the most recent and exclusive version of the Wider Serial Hybrid Propulsion System.

First introduced to the superyacht industry by the yard in 2015, the Serial Hybrid Propulsion System works by harnessing the electric power produced by generators and solar panels and utilising it for both propulsion and to supply the onboard users, all managed by Wider Power Management System. Alongside complete safety, the propulsion system was designed and built to allow for total silence and vibration-free cruising. Due to its installation, consumption and air pollutant emissions have been drastically reduced.

The WiderCat 92 model is designed to cruise in absolute silence at a cruising speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 15 knots. The 28m can accommodate eight guests in four cabins and boasts a wealth of features including a 67-square-metre beach club.

The first WiderCat 92 will be making her debut at this year’s Cannes Yachting Festival, which will take place from the 12th to the 17th of September.
