Heesen's 57m Project Setteesettanta Completes Hull Tests

By Heather Collier

Heesen has officially confirmed the hull design of Project Setteesettanta has now passed two days of model tests in the new tank at the Wolfson Unit located in Southampton, under a rigorous programme of Computational Fluid Dynamics simulations.

The 57-metre vessel is a full custom motor yacht requested by repeat Heesen clients, who wanted a yacht tailored specifically to their lifestyle.

Comprised entirely of aluminium, she sports a fast diplacement hull form and shallow draft, demonstrating ultimate weight control, speed and efficiency.

Her exterior was penned by Omega Archtiects, with her interior designed by Cristiano Gatto Design. In terms of performance, she has a conventional propulsion system and two compact MTU 16V2000M72 (1,440 kW) diesel engines, allowing her to comfortably reach a top speed of 18 knots and a remarkable range of 3,900 nautical miles at 12 knots. She has a gross tonnage of 920 GT internal volume, and can accommodate up to 12 guests and 13 crew members.

"The Fast Displacement hull of this 57m yacht was tested in many different sea states, including those representing very harsh conditions,” said Perry van Oossanen of renowned Dutch hydrodynamicists van Oossanen Naval architects.

We had paid particular attention in the design to achieving low accelerations, in both pitch and roll - which are the measure of comfort onboard - and to ensuring a dry vessel in spite of her reversed-bow design.”

Calm water tests also proved to be a major success, Perry confirmed: “They demonstrated yet again the top-notch performance of the Fast Displacement Hull Form."

Setteesettanta's design is highly meticulous, and has been carefully considered down to the finest of details. Certain to please each guest, she will deliver the best experience possible onboard by offering high levels of comfort in all matter of sea and weather conditions.

Heesen continues to excel in crafting lightweight, all-aluminium yachts engineered and built to the finest tolerances.

"Project Setteesettanta sports a fourth deck, a large pool and a low stern, which allowed us to flex our mental muscles to ensure the vessel’s stability,” said Sjoerd van Herk, Heesen Senior Naval Architect.

We are currently finalising the preliminary design, and next month, we will begin the engineering phase. We look forward to the keel laying in September".

Setteesettanta is currently on track to be delivered in 2026.
