Lusben Launches New Inspection Pit for Sailing Yachts

By Frances Flannagan

Lusben has announced that a new inspection pit for sailing yachts has been completed at the shipyard in Livorno, taking the title as the largest in the Mediterranean. It solidifies the shipyard’s position as a significant hub for refit services, offering its expertise to canting keel sailing yachts up to 70m as well as motor yachts.

Confirming Lusben as a refit and repair yard that sets benchmarks within the industry, the shipyard has announced the successful completion of its brand new inspection pit for sailing yachts. Notably, it is the largest in the Mediterranean, at 12 metres long, 8.5 metres deep and 3.5 metres wide.

Alessio Centelli, Site Manager at Livorno, commented: ‘Now we have a new inspection pit for sailing yachts that allows us to perform work of all types on canting keel boats up to 70 metres long. It’s a remarkable project that confirms the Shipyard’s credentials as a centre specialising in the world of sailing yachts as well.’

This new facility expands Lusben’s refit services significantly, now able to take on new commissions of large canting keel sailing yachts. All routine and maintenance operations can be carried out in this new pit, from painting to work on keels.

It has been built with an extremely versatile structure, also able to accommodate motor yachts due to two concrete slabs that cover the pit, allowing for the space to also be used for ‘classic’ refit operations.

Gianni Paladino, Commercial Director of Lusben, commented: ‘This major investment in the Livorno site, following others completed in recent years, confirms the Group’s intention to expand the Lusben division and, in the coming years, consolidate its position as a benchmark for refit work in the Mediterranean. Now we have the space, the technology and the people to achieve this important objective, as is already confirmed by recent orders and others being finalised for the upcoming autumn season.’

New and highly qualified professionals are set to be recruited to manage this inspection pit, further enhancing Lusben’s ability to offer unmatched yacht refit services and expanding its existing team of experts.

"It’s a remarkable project that confirms the Shipyard’s credentials as a centre specialising in the world of sailing yachts as well."
