LYC Welcomes First Superyacht Since Redevelopment
Hong Kong based Lantau Yacht Club has welcomed the first superyacht into its marina since a huge development project began to construct a new world-class superyacht marina.
Lantau Yacht Club, formerly Discovery Bay Marina Club, closed in 2019 for a phased renovation which is set to transform the facility into a state-of-the-art yacht club and marina with superyacht berthing for vessels up to 100m in length. The arrival of the first member yacht and first visiting yacht, a Ferretti Yachts 670, marks the completion of Phase 1 of the Marina and service yard.
Phase 1 of the development has the construction of two-thirds of the total berths in the marina, ranging from 10m to 60m. The new Marina Office will be the focal point of current operations, and it is where Lantau Yacht Club’s Member Service, Concierge and Marina Operations teams will be based.
The office will provide a seamless one-stop shop for all members and crew as they transition from land to sea. An on-site service yard will have the added benefit of providing professional maintenance and repair services for visiting yachts, ensuring that everything needed is available. The Office leads out onto a beautiful lawn patio with stunning views across the South China Sea, ideal for relaxing on arrival.
Mr Victor Cha, Deputy Chairman & Managing Director of HKR International, expressed his delight at the progress made on the Lantau Yacht Club development. Lantau Yacht Club is a member of the Hong Kong conglomerate, who in turn have made this transformation possible. Mr Cha said: “We are delighted as Lantau Yacht Club embarks on a new journey. This is an important milepost for both Hong Kong Resort and the yachting community in the region as LYC opens its doors, setting a new standard and direction for marinas and superyacht industry.”
The investment in the Discovery Bay area is designed to make the destination a leading homeport for yachts in Asia. Much more than world-class marina facilities, Discovery Bay offers a luxury experience with a premium residential lifestyle and phenomenal leisure facilities. Discovery Bay truly fits in with the escapism of superyacht travel, with its own manmade beach, alfresco dining areas and two retail hubs among the facilities offered.
The owner of the first full member vessel of LYC shared their delight at being part of this milestone for Lantau Yacht Club, and the reasons why this is such an attractive area for yachting enthusiasts. “As a long-time Discovery Bay resident, I have been very much looking forward to this new facility – its proximity to home, the ease of access to my boat, and the Marina services, offer much greater safety and convenience, and mean that we can enjoy the beauty of local waters at any time, while making a long term base for exploration further afield.”
The first visiting superyacht into the new marina at Lantau Yacht Club was a Ferretti Yachts 670, which recently made its debut in Hong Kong. The Italian luxury yacht builder has a strong base in Asia, and Sales & Marketing Manager Andrew Pitchford stated: “It is our pleasure to bring our new Ferretti Yachts 670 to the highly anticipated LYC Marina.” Pitchford also noted how the new facilities bode well for the future of yachting in Asia. “We are impressed by the world-class infrastructure and provisions, as well as the professional team,” continued Pitchford. “LYC is one of the few new marinas opened in the region in the last decade. We believe more visiting yachts will come to Hong Kong and berth at LYC as it offers custom-built superyacht berths that were not available before.”
There is much that is still to come from the development of Lantau Yacht Club, with refurbishment works of the rest of the marina and the clubhouse expected to be completed by the end of the year. Over the coming months there will be more member yachts arriving at the marina, along with a number of booking for international superyachts. We look forward to sharing further progress of this development which will undoubtedly lift the superyacht industry in Asia.
"We are impressed by the world-class infrastructure and provisions, as well as the professional team."
