By Zoe Coughlan

The world of luxury yachting reached new heights in 2024, with a series of groundbeaking concept designs unveiled that push the boundaries of exploration, sustainability, and comfort. From a sleek, high-performance 140m trimaran yacht to an eco-conscious 75m design, this year saw the announcement of some of the most exciting superyacht concepts ever conceived.

140m SPEAR, Lateral Naval Architects

In March, Lateral Naval Architects unveiled the 140m trimaran yacht concept SPEAR, the result of a collaboration with T. Fotiadis Design. This remarkable yacht combines cutting-edge scientific specifications with a luxurious yachting experience, designed for high-speed global exploration.

SPEAR stands out with her spacious luxury platform, offering a 40% increase in external space compared to traditional yachts of similar size, while maintaining indoor areas comparable to a 110m monohull. At the core of her design is the focus on enhanced outdoor living, with expansive sun decks, al fresco dining areas, and lounging spaces that cater to every occasion. Furthermore, SPEAR is built on a flexible system architecture, capable of accommodating future fuels, making her an environmentally forward-thinking choice for explorers.

Xplorer 80, Damen Yachting

Also in March, Damen Yachting introduced the new Xplorer 80 at the Palm Beach International Boat Show. She offers a perfect blend of luxurious amenities and expedition capabilities, combining high-spec shipbuilding with versatile features tailored for adventurous superyacht owners.

The Xplorer 80 is a highly customisable yacht, offering a range of interior and exterior options to suit the unique needs of each owner. The yacht can be tailored with various configurations, from hidden heli-hangars to fully equipped diving centers, and even options for conference rooms or additional guest cabins. The flexibility of the Xplorer 80 allows it to meet the demands of extreme environments while offering luxurious comfort for those seeking exploration in the most remote parts of the world.

88m PROJECT FUSION, Winch Design & Feadship

March also brought the announcement of PROJECT FUSION, an 88m superyacht concept from Winch Design and Feadship. Her design caters to a younger clientele, featuring smooth curves, open spaces, and fluid transitions that reflect the principles of comfort and connection throughout.

The interior design of PROJECT FUSION utilises earthy and neutral materials, with rustic woods that reinforce a connection to nature. A standout feature is a glass funnel filled with green foliage that runs between decks, creating a vertical connection while bringing the outdoors inside. The beach house spans two decks, offering flexible spaces that blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living, with areas like a gym, yoga studio, and sunken seating around the pool.

115m WHITE CORAL, Mulder Design

In September, Mulder Design unveiled its latest 115m concept WHITE CORAL. Emphasising timeless elegance, the design features long, simple lines and avoids fleeting trends, focusing instead on enhancing form. The yacht's striking features include a dramatic forward-leaning superstructure, a vertical mast, reverse fashion plates, and a fully certified helideck with an under-deck hangar. Additionally, WHITE CORAL offers luxurious amenities such as a glass-bottomed swimming pool, a spacious 18 x 8m beach club, and expansive sea terraces created by opening hull doors.

75m C, Feadship

Ahead of the Monaco Yacht Show, Feadship revealed its latest concept design C: a stunning 75m superyacht created to celebrate the brand’s 75th Diamond Anniversary. Drawing inspiration from diamonds and their carbon structure, the design incorporates sleek angles and extensive glass elements to create a bright, airy, and expansive living space. One of the standout features of C is its innovative layout, which seamlessly blends deck levels, highlighted by an elevator at the center of the yacht.

Incorporating cutting-edge technology and eco-conscious features, C also demonstrates Feadship’s commitment to sustainability. Powered by fuel cells running on methanol and lithium-metal batteries, the yacht employs a fully electric propulsion system with inline contra-rotating propellers, making it 30% more efficient than conventional systems.
