MYS 2022: Cecil Wright Talks Staying Small and Focused

By Emily Dawkins

With only one day left of the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show, Shari Liu sat down in the studio with the Founder of Cecil Wright, Chris Cecil-Wright. In conversation with the Founder, we discussed the current developments of the boutique yacht brokerage firm, its latest contract signed and what we can expect from Cecil Wright in the future.

‘Despite my hesitation, we’re having to grow,' explained Chris Cecil-Wright when asked about the firm's busy past year, ‘my plan has always been to stay small and look after people really well.'

With the boutique label key to its business, the Founder told us how his approach to the brokerage industry is to maintain relationships in a small and personal manner: ‘we really want to stay small and stay focused on the bigger boats.’

A hot topic in the industry at the moment is the new generation of superyacht owners and their increasing impact on the industry. We spoke to Chris Cecil-Wright about his thoughts on the matter: ‘it's inevitable; people are making their wealth much more quickly. As a brokerage firm, you do need to have young legs with new relationships.’

At the start of July this year, Cecil Wright announced the sale of a new 80m Nobiskrug motor yacht named Project Bullseye. As a broker recognised to have strong connections with Feadship, the Cecil Wright Founder discussed how the decision to build with the German yard was not only a decision from the owner, but a move to discover the work of all shipyards around the industry.

In regards to the future of Cecil Wright, we can expect an expansion in terms of locations but a continued effort to remain small, personal and bespoke. We are looking forward to see what will come next from Cecil Wright.
