MYS 2022: Massimo Minella on Team Italia’s Innovative DNA
We were delighted to welcome Massimo Minella, CEO of Team Italia, into our Interview Studio during the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show for a delightful conversation with Shari Liu. Massimo discusses the evolution of his company, its long-term approach to clients, and commitment to innovation.
Team Italia has been at the forefront of delivering innovative systems onboard yachts for over 20 years. Working across navigation, telecommunications, security and data transmission equipment, the company has helped yachts to optimise the function and integration of these systems, particularly through its exclusive I-Bridge system.
Massimo Minella reflects on how Team Italia has grown since its beginning in 2000, now with three facilities in Italy and over 60 staff working in departments such as R&D, Design, Electronics, Engineering and Installation.
Throughout this history, the I-Bridge solution has been a favourite for superyacht captains, particularly for its bespoke customisation to suit their preferences. “I-Bridge is a product born in 2000 which improved over time. The system and the integration of all components of the technological systems onboard for navigation, communication, monitoring and propulsion.
“The system is fully customisable, so we can adapt I-Bridge as per the sailing style of the Captain, there is no fixed solution.”
As demonstrated with I-Bridge innovation has been a defining characteristic of Team Italia but, as Massimo explains, there is more to the company’s innovation that its products.
“There is two points to take into consideration for innovation,” Massimo says. “Innovation from the technological point of view, but then innovation of the process.
“Since you have to manage very complex projects that encompass electronics, ergonomics, and style, the process and organisation is very important.”
With around 600 projects currently being managed, 350 of which are I-Bridge projects, it is clear to see why operational processes are so important at Team Italia. Despite the large volume of orders, Team Italia continues to provide a personal service to its clients.
