MYS 2023: An Insight into The Citizenship by Investment Unit

By Frances Flannagan

Joining Shari Liu at our interview studio in Monaco, we welcomed Mistie Perry-Jackson, Operations Officer of The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU), to give us an insight into the organisation. Discussing what CIU is, its aims, and its benefits, Perry-Jackson revealed all.

The Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) is the arm of the Antigua & Barbuda Government that is responsible for the processing of applications and the licensing of local agents and authorised representatives. It keeps an eye out for areas and vehicles for new developments in the country.

With a number of investment options, including the National Development Fund, business investment, real estate and investing in the University of West Indies, there is an entire host of options for anyone interested in investing.

Mistie Perry-Jackson commented: ‘We partner with what we consider international professionals… who have the expertise and the knowledge and the reach around the world to find and engage and explain to the clientele that we are looking for what it is that we offer.’

The CIU is focused on meaningful investment; it is ‘not just about the acquisition of a passport’. A notable investment opportunity that the Operations Officer highlights is Barbuda: a green investment option that international investors should be a part of.

The organisation allows for the freedom to invest without having to worry about taxation: a comfortable space for the investor. As Perry-Jackson said, ‘Why not go with a programme that knows what they’re doing, staff that knows what they’re doing, and a country that’s investor-friendly’.
