MYS 2023: Jeddah Yacht Club on Accessing a New Yachting Hub
Attention turned to the Red Sea and new yachting possibilities as Oliver Rees, General Manager of Jeddah Yacht Club, joined Shari Liu in our Monaco Yacht Show Interview Studio.
One of the most exciting and promising new superyacht developments, Jeddah Yacht Club burst onto the scene in 2021 when the marina opened to cater to visitors for the F1 Grand Prix. Built and ready after just 6 months, the facility has quickly been tailored to provide an inviting yachting hub for the region.
“We’ve got an amazing 5-star yachting facility with a yacht club, marina, sailing academy, and our own superyacht as well,” explains Oliver Rees, General Manager of Jeddah Yacht Club. “We’re really trying to make sure that we’re covering all bases with our facilities.”
Beyond the Formula 1, Saudi Arabi and the Red Sea has invested heavily in becoming a major new destination for yachting and luxury travel.
“We have 2,500km of coastline and it’s pristine. I can tell you first-hand that it’s stunning,” continues Oliver. “I’ve been to the Caribbean and the Maldives, but this really matches some of the best anchorages and locations that you can go to. It’s really undiscovered and that’s what is exciting for a lot of people in the yachting world.”
Making the wonders of this region more accessible for superyachts is part of a wider collaborative effort, as Oliver explains.
“We’re excited to see what is to come. Jeddah Yacht Club is part of that vision. We obviously have NEOM and Red Sea Global up and down the coast as well, and together we can make it a yachting destination.”
The short-term focus is simply on convincing the yachts to first stop and experience the region – something that can be conveniently done considering the location of Jeddah along the route from the Med to the Indian Ocean.
