MYS 2023: Mr Smith on Bringing Fun, Entertainment & Content Onboard Yachts
We were delighted to welcome Mr Smith to the Superyachts.com Interview Studio at Monaco to discuss the ways in which the company is bringing entertainment onboard yachts. Including the exciting development of Mr Cinema, this AV firm is set to enhance the superyacht experience in terms of content.
Jacco van der Stelt and Tjeerd van Groenland from Mr Smith joined Shari Liu to speak all things AV at the Monaco Yacht Show. Mr Smith is a company which produces AV and IT solutions for superyachts, making platforms easy for customers to use and using mainstream hardware to ensure simple solutions. The company provides a software platform which is intuitive and easy to use, mirroring what clients like to use within their homes. Van Greoenland commented:
‘From that perspective, we created a system where we have an app… and it allows you to control everything you would like with the same look and feel [and] user experience.’
The acronym LAVIE explains everything included within Mr Smith’s system: Lights, Audio, Video, Internet, and Entertainment. This solution is also an interactive device for superyacht owners and guests, acting as a live map, a way for the crew to communicate what is available for guests, as well daily pictures and itinerary information. Van der Stelt commented: ‘Everything is within the system’, meaning that nothing is optional and everything is included in the software.
With regards to content onboard, Mr Smith launched a new company in February 2023: Mr Cinema. Currently, it is the only legal solution out there which offers offline entertainment with the latest movies for yachts. It is a ‘subject that no AV Company likes to touch’, highlighting the ways in which Mr Smith is an innovative player within this aspect of the superyacht industry.
