MYS 2023: YPI Crew on Putting People First
Laurence Lewis, President of YPI Crew, sat down with Shari Liu at the Superyachts.com interview studio at the Monaco Yacht Show. Lewis shared the success behind her company, her methods, and the promising future that lies ahead.
Joining us for the third year in a row, we warmly welcomed Laurence Lewis, President of YPI Crew, to our interview studio. Since the Monaco Yacht Show 2022, YPI Crew has grown once again across all departments: stewards, captains and officers, and engineering. Exploring lots of different avenues, the company has recently partnered with the International Hydrographic society in terms of ocean mapping, which Lewis recognised as a ‘nice topic to discuss with Captains.’
The values of partnership and trust are central to YPI Crew’s ethos. Its methods of recruitment positively help to shape the industry, the key to its success resting in the value placed on people:
‘For us, it’s important to always put people first, so we carry on really concentrating on speaking with our candidates, speaking with our clients. For us, this is the key for our success.’
Standards are very important to the business, one example being the whole team undergoing training on how to recruit without discriminating.
The future is bright for YPI Crew, with the aim to continue to grow. ‘Of course I want to carry on growing YPI Crew. We’re always interested to talk to our peers, our competitors, our friends [about] ways to do that and how to merge and acquire new businesses.’
