MYS 2024: Espen Oeino On Looking to The Past to Ensure a Brighter Future

By Frances Flannagan

We had the pleasure of welcoming Espen Oeino back to the Superyachts.com interview studio for the 11th time on day two of the Monaco Yacht Show (MYS) 2024. Engaging heavily with the all-important topic of sustainability, Oeino shared with Shari Liu the ways in which his studio uses knowledge of the past to springboard into the future of yacht design.

Espen Oeino International has captivated the industry once again with a highly impressive fleet in attendance at the MYS, 85.3m BOLD being a highlight of the show. This well-travelled and efficient motor yacht encapsulates the unparalleled platform of which the studio’s yachts are based upon.

Speaking on his studio’s addition to Oceanco’s Simply Custom range, Oeino shone light onto the spectacular 80m vessel that is clarity:

‘It kind of reflects a lot of our experience in designing boats and seeing how people are using them,’ commented Espen Oeino, Founder of Espen Oeino International. ‘So we’re trying to really reduce the energy requirements as much as we can.’

CLARITY is defined by an exceptional amount of exterior space, a feature which comes from Oeino’s belief that ‘the ratio of inside spaces to outside spaces tend to be wrong on most yachts’.

Oeino also reflected on his studio’s relationship with Damen Yachting, and the unparalleled nature of both the Amels 60 and 80 Limited Editions. Five Amels 60’s have already been delivered, with another four in construction, whilst the first Amels 80 will be completed in 2025, with four already sold.

For Oeino, it is paramount to look ‘to the past, for a better future’: an ethos which comes to fruition in the brand’s stunning designs that retain the best features of older vessels, however with a modern twist.
