MYS 2024: Luxe & Keel's Vision for the Future of Superyacht Uniforms

By Sophia Spanton

Lu Kenhard, Founder of Luxe & Keel, joined Shari Liu in the Superyachts.com interview studio during the Monaco Yacht Show. Kenhard shared her vision for a brand that redefines yacht uniforms, providing insights into her boutique uniform company.

Speaking with Shari Liu, Lu Kenard shared an insight into the name behind her boutique uniform company: ‘Luxe’ reflects Kenhard’s commitment to luxury, while ‘Keel’ symbolises the foundational aspect of shipbuilding, with the initials also mirroring her name. Kenhard's journey began after graduating from cooking school and working on yachts, where she recognised the need for more stylish and functional uniforms in the industry.

Kenhard expressed her belief that the uniform market has lost its spark. She stated: ‘I feel that the uniform has gotten stagnant; it’s same-same, so that's why I am here.’ She aims to inject creativity and fun into yacht uniforms, recently introducing bold red jumpsuits in her latest projects.

Despite the perception of a saturated market, she noted that there are few professional uniform suppliers catering specifically to this niche.

‘I think there is definitely a gap in the market for someone like me… I understand the practicalities of being on a yacht, and you need uniform and you need it turned around,’ Kenhard stated, emphasising her goal to bridge the divide between off-the-shelf options and ultra-bespoke luxury.

Looking ahead, Kenhard envisions a more fashion-forward industry and hopes to showcase her designs at the Monaco Yacht Show in the coming years.
