MYS 2024: The Official Round-Up From the Superyachts.com Interview Studio

By Frances Flannagan

At the Monaco Yacht Show 2024, the Superyachts.com interview studio played host to a spectacle of industry leaders and pioneers: from shipyards and brokerages, to leading tech brands and superyacht influencers. Superyachts.com takes a look at the top ten interview moments from our studio, reflecting upon the magical four days that were the Monaco Yacht Show 2024.

Anniversaries, new studios and design debuts… the Superyachts.com interview studio was the hub of an array of exclusive industry insights at the MYS 2024. Kicking off the interview round-up is Peter Lürssen, who reflected on Lürssen Yachts' milestone anniversary of 150 years.

‘Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I look at the history of our company,’ commented the CEO, as he spoke on the exceptional history of the iconic shipyard.

Jonathan Beckett, Managing Partner & Chief Executive at Burgess, and Sarah Flavell, Marketing Manager at Damen Yachting, shared insights into the spectacular superyachts their respective companies had on display at Monaco, both of which made MYS history.

Burgess displayed 124m GOLDEN ODYSSEY, the largest vessel to ever attend the show, alongside 112m RENAISSANCE, whilst Damen Yachting showcased FIVE OCEANS: the first Yacht Support vessel to ever attend the MYS.

Paris Baloumis, Group Marketing Director of Oceanco, shed light on the ways in which the Dutch yard was delving deeper into the niches of custom design, redefining the brand’s offerings to clients and maximising the build experience.

This was beautifully complimented by Espen Øino, Founder of Espen Øino International, who spoke on his studio’s proposal for Oceanco’s Simply Custom platform. CLARITY represents a new take on indoor/outdoor ratio, that ironically mirrors that of boats that were delivered over a hundred years ago.

Exciting goals were shared by both Tanno Weeda, Head of Design at Feadship, and Raphael Sauleau, CEO of IYC. Weeda shared the shipyard’s goal for zero emissions by 2030, and Sauleau highlighted the ways in which IYC is working to increase its global presence, attending 15 boat shows this year and opening a series of new offices, one of which being in Dubai.

Winch Design has also moved offices, from Barnes to Putney, retaining an atmosphere that is close to the river and to nature, whilst making it a comfortable and creative space for the Winch Design team and clients alike.

Whilst some incredible industry goals were shared, Jonny Horsfield, Owner & Design Director of H2 Yacht Design, reflected on a true highlight of his career: He commented:

‘There are certain projects that happen that take you to the next level, the next stage,’ and for Horsfield, it was the design his studio created for the 120 metre Lürssen MARYAH.

Despite some unexpected showers, the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 did not disappoint, with the show’s Managing Director Gaëlle Tallarida sharing insights into the great mood that characterised this year’s event.

With the 33rd edition of the MYS wrapped up, we at Superyachts.com would like to thank all the interviewees who attended our studio, our host Shari Liu and our incredible sponsors for yet another unforgettable event.

We’ll see you on the docks of Port Hercules next year…
