MYS 2024: Tony Castro on Broadening The Horizons of Yacht Owners

By Frances Flannagan

At the Monaco Yacht Show 2024 (MYS), Shari Liu sat down with Tony Castro to discuss his studio’s recent achievements and developments. Driven by an unwavering passion for exploration, Castro strives to create vessels that allow Owners to adventure to the most remote corners of the globe, going against the traditional values of yachting.

Tony Castro has seen enormous amounts of success for over four decades, and 2024 has been just as exceptional. This year, Castro has been striving to develop something which he calls ‘the future motor sail’, with the idea to create a motor yacht that doesn’t require the use of engines for the whole time.

This unique design is representative of the ethos of the design studio, as Castro proceeded to ask the question: Is there life after St. Tropez? He shared with Shari Liu his ambition to widen yacht Owners’ horizons, commenting:

'Admittedly, the boats are not very suitable for some of these adventures... but you can see already in the world the appetite for new designs which are not conventional, and are possibly more suitable for those kind of voyages.'

Castro unveiled the exciting news of the studio’s brand-new GTO series that was unveiled at the Cannes Yachting Festival, adding to the brand’s extensive portfolio. He also provided insights into the Tony Castro Academy: a varied and guided service that will prove highly beneficial for both the design studio and the industry as a whole.

With a new office recently opened in Castro’s home country of Portugal, the future is bright for this exceptional brand that continues to offer the industry with extraordinary designs, facilitated by its Founder’s unwavering passion, dedication and expertise.
