RODRIGUEZDESIGN Shares New Concept: 63m M/Y AZUA

By Frances Flannagan

63m M/Y AZUA is RODRIGUEZDESIGN’s latest concept superyacht, built with the philosophy of creating a stylish, sleek and fast vessel. Encapsulating a sporty-feel whilst keeping the timeless elegance of superyacht design, AZUA is a nod towards the future of superyacht-building.

Noting the average age of superyacht owners declining, RODRIGUEZDESIGN came to the realisation that the current yacht market featuring displacement boats with slow top speeds and bulky profiles are not suited to new buyers. Because of this, the design firm has developed the 63m concept AZUA to appeal to this new market.

‘The idea behind M/Y AZUA was to develop a concept that would appeal [to the] public: sporty, yet elegant. Discreet, yet flashy. Perfect for young owners looking for the thrills of a fast boat and the comforts of a superyacht,’ commented Josh Rodriguez, Owner of RODRIGUEZDESIGN. ‘M/Y AZUA can reach a top speed of 22 knots. Perfect to catch a sunset in St. Tropez and be back in time for dinner in Monaco.’

Upon entering the yacht, guests will be welcomed by a generous beach club area which features a 3m wide transformer platform that steps down into the sea as well as a bar area. There are many outdoor spaces for guests to relax, including an informal al fresco dining set up which can accommodate up to ten guests and a large O-Shaped sofa and oversized sunbathing area on the upper deck. The sundeck is also home to stand-out features, including another sunbathing space that can be used as a gym area, a 3m wide jacuzzi and sun pads.

As the exteriors are characterised by space, sunbed-to-sea design features and sociability, the interiors are designed with elegance in mind. ‘For the interior design, we took a more elegant and modern approach. The use of rose gold accents together with light wood and pastel colours matched with contrasting darker pillows create a laid back and welcoming area where owners can feel at home’, commented Ignacio Rodriguez, Chief Interior Designer of RODRIGUEZDESIGN.

Similarly to AZUA’s exteriors, the indoor space has plenty of options for guests to relax and dine. The main saloon is a beautiful open plan area, where the seating space flows into the dining room, broadening the space and adorning it with natural light. An observation lounge on the upper deck is the perfect place for guests to enjoy a movie night or enjoy the spectacular 270 degree view provided by the angled floor to ceiling windows.

The full-beam master cabin is a spectacular feature of AZUA. It is elegantly designed, following the same theme as the rest of the yacht, with rose gold accents threaded throughout and LED lights creating a warm and comforting ambience. The rest of the accommodation is configured as two VIP suites on the main deck, and two double cabins on the lower deck.

This concept design brings together themes of style and sleekness as well as sociability, with a design whose aesthetics are appealing to those who wish for a sporty vessel that contains all the elegance one would expect from a superyacht. AZUA  is certainly a concept design that is forward-looking in terms of what Owner’s desire from their yachts, whilst containing the timeless elements that continue to be at the heart of superyacht design.

"The idea behind M/Y AZUA was to develop a concept that would appeal [to the] public: sporty, yet elegant. Discreet, yet flashy. Perfect for young owners looking for the thrills of a fast boat and the comforts of a superyacht."
