Rossinavi Unveils SOLSEA: The Hybrid-Electric Catamaran Concept

By Zoe Coughlan

Rossinavi, the renowned Italian shipyard celebrated for its cutting-edge designs and commitment to innovation, has proudly announced the launch of its revolutionary hybrid-electric catamaran concept, SOLSEA. Revealed during the prestigious Design Miami 2024, this groundbreaking collaboration with designer Yves Béhar pushes the boundaries of sustainable superyacht design and sets new standards for the industry.

SOLSEA represents a bold vision for eco-conscious luxury, blending advanced technology with refined aesthetics to offer a new standard in silent, long-distance ocean exploration. Designed for owners passionate about the ocean, watersports, and extended voyages, SOLSEA provides a solution for those seeking both adventure and sustainability.

After three years of collaboration between Rossinavi and Béhar, SOLSEA has evolved into a catamaran that not only boasts the luxury of a 70sqm owner's cabin but also incorporates innovative environmental features. Its hybrid-electric propulsion system allows it to operate without refueling for long crossings, while solar panels are seamlessly integrated to optimise energy usage, all within an elegant, minimalistic framework.

Béhar’s influence on SOLSEA’s design is evident in its gentle, fluid lines and soothing interior elements. The use of natural materials such as cork flooring and ocean plastic highlights the commitment to sustainability, with renewable energy sources powering the vessel’s systems. The soft matte wood tones and inviting bouclé textiles create a serene onboard atmosphere, perfectly aligned with the vessel’s environmental ethos.

Federico Rossi, Chief Operating Officer of Rossinavi stated: 'It’s been an incredible journey to see how Yves Béhar reimagined the naval platform of our hybrid-electric catamaran. His fresh, external perspective brought a style that is both luxurious and refined. This collaboration began shortly after we developed the Seawolf X concept three years ago and marks an exciting new chapter for us. Now, following the success of the first catamaran equipped with artificial intelligence, we’re thrilled to unveil SOLSEA, a fresh reinterpretation of this cutting-edge naval technology.'

The catamaran features an eco-displacement hull that enhances hydrodynamic efficiency, significantly reducing emissions, noise, and vibrations. SOLSEA’s rear platform, an innovative full-width hydraulic door, transforms into a spacious area for water activities, adding versatility to the design without compromising its clean aesthetic.

The SOLSEA concept is also an embodiment of Rossinavi’s BluE philosophy, which focuses on hybrid-electric propulsion systems powered by batteries and solar panels. Following the success of previous eco-friendly designs, BluE introduces a commitment to reducing CO2 emissions with vessels capable of operating in full-electric mode for day trips and up to 80% of transatlantic journeys. The integration of photovoltaic technology into Solsea’s structure ensures that the yacht is powered by clean, renewable energy, reflecting the shipyard’s dedication to environmental stewardship.

SOLSEA represents the future of sustainable luxury yachting. With innovation and environmental consciousness at its core, this new project promises to redefine the way we explore the world’s oceans.

"Now, following the success of the first catamaran equipped with artificial intelligence, we’re thrilled to unveil SOLSEA, a fresh reinterpretation of this cutting-edge naval technology."
