Sirena Yachts Opens a New Superyacht Shipyard in Yalova

By Frances Flannagan

Launched in late 2016, Turkish yard Sirena Yachts has seen continued growth across both sales volumes and model sizes over recent years, leading the shipyard to take the natural step to expand its yacht production facilities in Turkey. This marks a pivotal moment in the shipyard’s journey to becoming a strong presence within a range of diverse markets.

Sirena Yachts’ Yalova facility has recently been expanded by 150,000 sqm, with the workforce being boosted to 1,200 people, set to be dedicated to Sirena’s Steel 42 superyacht.

‘Yalova is an area renowned for its commercial shipbuilding, so it is appropriate that we should be building the new 42 Steel there,’ commented Ali Onger, Chief Operations Officer. ‘Hot steel work, such as cutting, bending and welding will all be done by sub-contractors on site. We will also do the outfitting and interior fit-out here. The chief advantage is that we can launch our growing range of big yachts directly from the production halls, with no need for transportation to the water's edge.’

Sirena already has two existing facilities in Yalova: the main facility is where the brand’s smaller yachts are built, located 25 minutes from the sea and boasting 155,000 sqm of space.

Onger added: ‘Our original shipyard lies inland, and it is still the main site where we manufacture the Sirena 48, 58, 68 and 78. On the Sirena 68 and 78 we perform the final fit out at another location in Yalova, as this keeps the air draught low enough to pass under a number of bridges.’

The Tuzla shipyard is dedicated exclusively to the production of the 88ft flagship vessel located by the sea so yachts can be launched directly.

This expansion highlights a period of significant growth for the brand, the key being rigorous design work, strong cost control and a comprehensive understanding of what the mid-size yachting market demands. Sirena Yachts has been rewarded with sustainable growth in order numbers, in particular from the US market, following the debut of Sirena’s 64 in 2017.

Onger continued: ‘We want to be the go-to shipyard that can accommodate the needs of the clients from the Sirena 48 upwards. The biggest brands don't build this small anymore, but somebody has to be there to provide yachts that can get clients started on their boating journey. This way, we can provide the right yacht for each stage of the client's yachting life.’

The shipyard has partnered with a number of world-renowned designers, including Cor D. Rover and Hot Lab, to equip the most pleasing lines with the maximum amount of features. Sirena Yachts’ strategy is ‘to give the maximum space, usage and benefit to whichever boat the client wants’, highlighting how the Turkish yard makes the most out of any size yacht, growing its presence across a variety of markets.
