Suppliers & Manufacturers Navigating the American Market at FLIBS 2023

By Emily Dawkins

The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (FLIBS) is a beacon for a display of the world's most luxurious and innovative superyachts, and at the 2023 edition, it's not just the yachts that made waves. This year, superyacht suppliers and manufacturers from around the globe came together to showcase their top-of-the-line products and services, as well as share their take on the American market. On the second day of the show, we spoke to Rolls-Royce Power Systems, Cross Chartering Yacht Transport and Monarch Marine to find out more.

For over 40 decades the Global Marine division of Rolls-Royce Power Systems has been powering boats from 20m to 140m, as well as larger vessels in the commercial marine industry; each time working to ensure that they are alongside the client and the vessel from project design to service during operations.

Vice President of Global Marine, Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG (mtu Solutions), Denise Kurtulus shared more details with us about the power company’s services and product offerings, specifically in regards to the American market where powering sportfishing vessels is their significant area of expertise.

‘In an average year, we have 50 boats that are powered with our engines, but we are not only an engine manufacturer. We also cover the entire range of electronics, automation, remote controls, joysticks…to fully support the captain to manoeuvre as fast and as flexible as possible,’ shared Kurtulus.

Recently acquiring Team Italia has also been a significant step for the company, now teaming up to build downsized bridges for superyachts.

Often understated as an integral part of the industry, yacht transport is hugely significant when it comes to enhancing a superyacht owner’s experience. Returning once again to the annual FLIBS, Cross Chartering Yacht Transport ensures the very best service to their clients when it comes to reliability and performance.

In conversation with Cross Chartering President, Paul Haber & CEO, Christophe Thienpont, the duo shared how the American market has been nothing but successful for the transport company; with it seeing substantial growth in North America over the past year leading to securing its position as the largest yacht carrier in North America.

Haber explained: ‘Our track record is unmatched in the industry….in North America for example we’ve increased our number of sailings by 50% year after year.’

President & CEO of Monarch Marine, Denton Douglas, shared the latest from the American yacht builder, and how it caters to the trends and desires of the American market.

‘We’re here to show what we have, and how we do it differently. Our goal is this: whatever the client’s needs are, we can meet those needs with quality and simplicity,’ explained Douglas.

In light of new trends towards onboard living, sustainable operation and ultimate levels of safety and comfort, the shipyard has launched a new hybrid vessel, alongside its successful pre-existing explorer models.
