Ferretti Group Opened Newly Refurbished La Spezia Shipyard
In May this year, Ferretti Group officially opened its newly renovated Riva shipyard in La Spezia. The refurbished facility, covering 64,000 sqm, now boasts four industrial sheds, 33 berths, and dedicated painting areas, enhancing its ability to produce yachts ranging from 23m to 41m. With the capacity to launch up to 30 boats per year, including models up to 40 meters in length, the La Spezia yard is already playing a key role in the group's expansion and production goals and highlights Ferretti Group's commitment to growth and innovation.
The shipyard is strategically located in the Ligurian and Tyrrhenian Seas, employing over 750 workers, including 200 direct employees. This facility is also part of the Miglio Blu (Blue Mile) project, which promotes local excellence in the yachting industry while respecting the surrounding natural environment.
Largest Ever Superyacht Marina in North America Announced
In June, the Habacoa Superyacht Marina was revealed to the industry, set to open in 2027 with the aim to address the growing global shortage of superyacht berths. Located in the pristine waters of South Abaco, the Bahamas, this state-of-the-art marina will offer 150 slips, accommodating vessels ranging from 18m to over 200m in length. Designed to withstand a one-in-100-year storm event, Habacoa will provide secure docking and exceptional amenities, making it North America’s largest and most comprehensive marina. The development will also feature luxurious residences, a five-star hotel, and a range of high-end facilities, including a members-only club, nightclub, casino, spa, and fitness center, all created by the renowned Zaha Hadid Architects.
Habacoa’s design emphasises sustainability and environmental responsibility. The marina will harness solar power for a third of its energy needs and feature rainwater harvesting and a wastewater recycling plant. Its buildings will incorporate environmentally friendly materials and provide a seamless connection to the natural surroundings. Beyond catering to superyacht owners, the development will bring significant socio-economic benefits to the Bahamas, generating over 1,000 jobs during construction and sustaining 600 permanent jobs thereafter.
Lusben Launched New Inspection Pit for Sailing Yachts
In July, Lusben unveiled a significant new development at its Livorno shipyard with the completion of the largest inspection pit for sailing yachts in the Mediterranean. Measuring 12m long, 8.5m deep, and 3.5m wide, the facility can accommodate canting keel sailing yachts up to 70m in length. This impressive addition positions Lusben as a key player in the yacht refit industry, particularly for large sailing yachts, enabling the shipyard to perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks, from painting to keel work. The pit’s versatile design also allows it to accommodate motor yachts, thanks to two concrete slabs that cover the area.

Development of First Superyacht Marina in the Maldives Launched
July also saw Atoll Estates launching the development of Zamani Islands in the Maldives, a groundbreaking lifestyle destination that aims to blend luxury with sustainability. The project will feature the region's first superyacht marina and yacht club, offering a 60,000 sqm marina with top-tier facilities for superyacht owners and boating enthusiasts alike. Designed with a focus on environmental responsibility, the resort will be powered entirely by renewable energy, making it the first 100 percent sustainable resort in the Maldives.
